Visa Information

Bulgaria has the European Union’s Common Visa Policy as a member country accepting European citizens freely. All non-EU citizens are required to have a passport to enter the EU with the appropriate visas. Sofia International Airport
Sofia International Airport is well connected with direct flights from a number of European cities, and with the long-haul destinations, the big European hubs (e.g. London, Frankfurt, Munich) are used. Website

Airport Transfers
Taxi: The transfer time to the city center is approx. 20 min., and the fare is approx. 16 BGN (a fare is 0,79 BGN/km or 0,90 BGN/km).

Terminal 1 & Terminal 2
For your convenience and safety, we would recommend that you use the services of the taxi companies, which Sofia Airport has contracts with. You can make a request for the service at the office of: OK Supertrans T: (+359 2) 973 21 21

Bus
There is a direct bus line to the city center route No. 84, the ticket is 1,60 BGN. Departs from Terminal 1 & 2. Bus line 84 operates on the following route:
Gen. Gurko Str. – Blvd. Tzarigradsko shose – Blvd. Christopher Columbus – Prodan Tarakchiev Str. – Terminal 2 – Terminal 1. The reverse route is from Terminal 1, along Christopher Columbus Blvd., towards Gen. Gurko Str. Bus stops at Orlov Most (Eagles’ Bridge) and Sofia University provide convenient transport connection to the underground and other public bus and trolley services. The entire journey takes approximately 40 min during weekdays and 30 min. at weekends and holidays.

Public Transport
The public transport in Sofia is efficient and will get you anywhere in the city. Waiting time are short are acceptable. At peak times metro, trolley buses, trams and buses run every 3–5 minutes. The public transport network consists of:
• 2 Metro Lines (3rd under construction);
• 9 trolley bus lines;
• 15 tram lines;
• 51 suburban bus lines;
• 43 bus routes.

Ticketing
• Single-trip ticket: 1,60 BGN
• Single-trip ticket sold by the driver: 1,60 BGN
• Single-trip ticket issued by on-board ticket vending machine in trams and trolleybuses: 1,60 BGN
• Single trip ticket issued by ticket vending machine at underground stations or by cashier at underground ticket desk of Metropoliten: 1,60 BGN
• 10-trip voucher ticket (valid for one passenger): 12 BGN
• One-day travel card for all lines: 4 BGN
A piece of baggage larger than 60 cm x 60 cm x 40 cm is charged by a separate ticket.

Operating Hours
The public transport works from 4:00 am to 11:00 pm, where it is advised to always check online or at stations the exact operating hours of each line.

A pretty Metro? Yes indeed!
Sofia has a rather new metro in place (since 1998) the design of each station is modern, unique and themed to a specific topic. This makes Sofia Metro the desired way of transportation as for the locals, so for the visitors of the capital. Online interactive Sofia Metro map

Parking in Sofia
Sofia is divided into parking zones, where each zone determines the time and fee one has to pay in order to use a public parking space on the street. There are a number of car parkings where one can leave the car for a number of hours, where the fee is not determined by the zone. Information on parking

Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria and the 15th largest city in the European Union with a population of 1.2 million people.

Dramatically ringed by the Balkan Mountains to the north and the Vitosha Mountains to the south, Sofia stands on an open plain 550m (1,804ft) above sea level in western Bulgaria.

EAN Regional Teaching Course Dates

Language
The official language of the EAN Regional Teaching Course Dates is English.

Participation
The EAN Regional Teaching Course will be open to all physicians in neurology and related fields.

Registration
EAN is covering the registration fees and the speakers. Participants only have to pay for their travel and accommodation if needed.

Access to the EAN Regional Teaching Course
Participants should wear the identification badge collected at the Secretariat Desk upon registration during all sessions and events.

Final Programme
The programme will be uploaded on-line in August 2017. The printed version of the final programme will be available to all registered participants directly on-site.

City Accessibility
The Sofia Airport is an international facility that receives flights from Europe and the world. In the city of Sofia it is recommended to use Public transportation or Taxi. The transfer time to the city centre is approximately 20 minutes. More information can be obtained on the Official Tourism Portal of Bulgaria.

Climate
The average temperature in October ranges from 6˚C (43˚F) to 17˚C (63˚F).

Travel Health
Participants should arrange an insurance policy on their own (in regards to personal insurance, insurance for luggage, valuables and for third party damages). The Organizers will not be responsible for this. No responsibility will also be accepted for problems resulting from strikes, climate conditions or any other circumstances beyond the Organizers’ control.

On behalf of the European Academy of Neurology and the Bulgarian Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics we are honored to welcome you to the EAN Regional Teaching Course in Sofia from October 6th to 8th 2017. The event is in cooperation with the Medical Faculty of St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University, the Military Medical Academy – Sofia, and under the aegis of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The EAN course is aimed at providing very high level of scientific and practical knowledge in the fields of Interventional Vascular Neurology, advance of Nonvascular Neurosonology and interdisciplinary problems such as pain and headache, autonomic dysfunction and neurorehabilitation. These topics of social importance will be presented by leading European experts.

More than 150 specialists, residents and students in Neurology, Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Kinesiotherapy from Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, etc. have been registered for this event. Along with the training, all delegates will have the opportunity to enjoy the history and the beauty of Sofia – one of the oldest capitals in Europe.
