Bulgarian Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics (BSNCH) is the only scientific society devoted entirely to neurosonology in Bulgaria. It was founded in 2005 as a non-profitable organization, registered in Sofia. The Society is run in accordance with constitution, approved by the General Assembly. Its global aim is to perform a continuous education in the field of neurosonology in accordance with international criteria and ethics by organizing teaching courses and scientific meetings, editing educational materials, journals and books, establishing collaboration with similar international organizations, creating a website, elaborating a network of neurosonological laboratories in Bulgaria, giving practical aid of the members of the Society, etc. At presence, the Society has more than 85 active members, growing up every year. It has a central office in Sofia and 2 regional branches for the North and the South parts of the country.
The Society works in close relation with the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics, the Bulgarian Society of Neurology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Medical Universities, Ministry of Health, National Health Fund and other organizations. So far, it elaborated the Bulgarian guidelines of neurosonological investigations, the university educational training programme for ultrasound diagnostics of nervous system and the algorithm for diagnosis and treatment of carotid pathology.
Bulgarian Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics organizes annual meetings with international participation of famous lecturers on hot topics. The Society is editing twice a year the periodic scientific journal “Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics” where some of the articles are bi-lingual (bulgarian-english). The International Advisory Board provides the quality control of the scientific papers and recommends the editorial articles. The journal has a special rubric “Who is who” where famous scientists and world experts in neurosonology are introduced. In 2008 the Society presented the first bulgarian-english “Atlas of Neurosonology”, edited by E. Titianova, K. Niederkorn and E. Christova and foreworded by E. B. Ringelstein. This book fills a void in the Bulgarian and international literature on neurosonology and provides a practical source of information for everyone interested in this field.
